Volunteers in Trastanello

Become part of a living restoration project in the Ligurian hills.

INTRO

We regularly welcome volunteers who want to take part in the life of Trastanello.

This is not a formal program, but a shared experience. We work together, cook together, and spend time as a small, temporary community. What we offer is not just work, but the possibility to be part of a place that is evolving slowly and naturally.

WHAT WE DO TOGETHER

Depending on the season and current projects, activities may include:

  • restoring parts of the house using natural materials (clay, lime, wood, stone)

  • helping with the roof reconstruction

  • gardening and working on the terraces

  • small maintenance tasks around the house and land

  • preparing food and sharing daily life

No previous experience is required — curiosity and willingness to learn are more important.

DAILY RHYTHM

We usually work together for around 4–5 hours a day, leaving time for rest, exploration, or creative activities.

Life here is simple and flexible. Some days are more active, others slower. We adapt to the weather, the work, and the people present.

ACCOMMODATION & FOOD

We provide:

  • tents and sleeping bags

  • two indoor rooms for those who prefer to sleep inside

  • access to a well-equipped kitchen with gas cooker

  • washing machine

We usually cook and eat together. Food is simple, often vegetarian, and based on shared preparation.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are not looking for many people, but for the right people.

You may feel comfortable here if you:

  • are open-minded and adaptable

  • enjoy simple living and nature

  • are interested in natural building or creative work

  • are willing to participate in daily life, not only in work

  • respect the place and the people around you

We prefer longer stays, as they allow deeper involvement and a more meaningful experience.

LIFE BEYOND WORK

When we host volunteers, we share much more than work.

We spend time together — cooking, talking, exchanging experiences, and sometimes introducing you to our local community. We go for walks, hikes, or swim in the sea or in natural pools in the forest streams near the village.

These shared moments are an important part of the experience.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Trastanello is a very small and quiet village.

  • There are only a few permanent residents

  • Life is simple and sometimes physically demanding

  • This is not a retreat or a holiday place

  • It is a real, evolving project

People who come here usually stay because they feel connected to this way of living.
